1. Terms

By accessing or using the app Halal Scanner - HalalSpot, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, all applicable laws and regulations, and agree that you are responsible for compliance with any applicable local laws. If you do not agree with any of these terms, you are prohibited from using or accessing HalalSpot. The materials and features contained in HalalSpot are protected by applicable copyright and trademark law.

2. Use License

Permission is granted to temporarily download one copy of HalalSpot per device for personal, non-commercial transitory use only. This is the grant of a license, not a transfer of title, and under this license you may not: modify or copy the app or its materials; use the app or its materials for any commercial purpose or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial); attempt to decompile or reverse engineer any software contained in HalalSpot; remove any copyright or other proprietary notations from the app; or transfer the app or its materials to another person or mirror the app on any other platform. This license shall automatically terminate if you violate any of these restrictions and may be terminated by Appitudex at any time. Upon terminating your use of HalalSpot or upon termination of this license, you must destroy any downloaded materials in your possession whether in electronic or printed format.

3. Disclaimer

The materials and features within HalalSpot are provided on an 'as is' basis. Appitudex makes no warranties, expressed or implied, and hereby disclaims and negates all other warranties including, without limitation, implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement of intellectual property or other violation of rights.

HalalSpot is not a religious authority, fatwa-issuing body, or halal certification organization. All halal analyses, E-code rulings, madhab-specific opinions, ingredient assessments, and AI-generated responses provided by HalalSpot are for informational and educational purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for consultation with qualified Islamic scholars, certified halal authorities, or official halal certification bodies. Always consult a qualified scholar or recognized halal authority regarding any questions you may have about the permissibility of a product or ingredient. Never rely solely on HalalSpot for definitive halal or haram determinations.

Furthermore, Appitudex does not warrant or make any representations concerning the accuracy, completeness, likely results, or reliability of the halal analyses, E-code database, cosmetic ingredient database, keyword detection, or any information provided through the app or on any sites linked to HalalSpot. Product data retrieved from third-party databases such as OpenFoodFacts may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. AI analyses may vary based on photo quality, lighting conditions, and other factors beyond Appitudex's control.

4. Limitations

In no event shall Appitudex or its suppliers be liable for any damages (including, without limitation, damages for loss of data or profit, or due to business interruption, dietary or religious decisions made based on halal analyses, or any harm arising from reliance on the app's content) arising out of the use or inability to use HalalSpot, even if Appitudex or an Appitudex authorized representative has been notified orally or in writing of the possibility of such damage. Because some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on implied warranties or limitations of liability for consequential or incidental damages, these limitations may not apply to you.

5. Product Data and AI Processing

HalalSpot allows you to scan product barcodes and ingredient labels to determine their halal status. When you scan a barcode, product information may be retrieved from the OpenFoodFacts database. No personally identifying information is sent during these lookups — only the barcode number is transmitted.

When you choose to submit a photo for AI analysis or use the AI Halal Expert chat feature, your product photo and related metadata (such as ingredient list, product name, and selected madhab) are transmitted to Google's Gemini AI service (via Firebase Vertex AI) for processing. By tapping the "Analyze" button, initiating an AI Detailed Analysis, or sending a message in the AI Halal Expert chat, you are providing your explicit consent to this transmission.

No data is transmitted to any external AI service without your direct action. Local analyses using the built-in E-code database, cosmetic ingredient database, and keyword detection are performed entirely on your device without any external data transmission. Your scan history, saved products, favorites, and analysis results are stored locally on your device and are not accessible to Appitudex. No personally identifying information (such as your name or email address) is sent to the AI service. For details on how Google handles transmitted data, please review Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

You acknowledge that Appitudex does not control and is not responsible for Google's data handling practices, and that AI-generated analyses are probabilistic in nature and may not be accurate. You use the AI analysis feature entirely at your own risk and discretion.

6. Halal Database and Rulings

HalalSpot includes built-in databases for E-code additives, cosmetic ingredients, and ingredient keyword detection. These databases are compiled from publicly available scholarly sources including IIFA resolutions, IFANCA guidelines, and recognized Islamic scholars. HalalSpot supports madhab-specific rulings for Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, and Hanbali schools of jurisprudence.

You acknowledge that: scholarly opinions on certain ingredients may differ beyond what is represented in the app; the databases may not cover every additive, ingredient, or product on the market; halal rulings for certain substances are subject to ongoing scholarly debate; and product formulations may change without notice, potentially rendering a previous analysis outdated. Appitudex makes no guarantee that the halal status shown for any product or ingredient is definitive, universally accepted, or current.
